Summer might be winding down, but September still has plenty of sunshine, warm afternoons, and reasons to get outside. In Markham, there is still time to squeeze in a round of golf, spend an afternoon on the trails, linger on a patio, visit a local farm, and grab one more ice cream before sweater weather officially takes over.
If you are not quite ready to say goodbye to summer, here are a few ways to make the most of September in Markham.
Tee Off Under The September Sun
September is one of the best times to get out on the golf course. The intense summer heat starts to ease up, the fairways are still green, and there is plenty of daylight left for a round outdoors.
For a championship-level experience, book a tee time at Angus Glen Golf Club and take on the same fairways that have hosted some of golf’s biggest names. If you want a course that still brings plenty of challenge but feels approachable, Upper Unionville Golf Club is another great option. Or head to Bushwood Golf Club, where you can choose between an 18-hole championship course and a shorter 9-hole executive course depending on how much time you have.
Not ready to put the clubs away yet? Check out our Golf in Markham guide for even more courses and places to practice around the city.
Hit the Trails While the Weather Is Just Right
Not too hot, not too cold, September walking and cycling weather is pretty hard to beat. Markham has more than 22 kilometres of scenic pathways for walkers, runners, and cyclists, so there is plenty of room to enjoy those final warm days outside.
Follow the Rouge Valley Trail as it winds along the Rouge River and through Milne Dam Conservation Park, or head deeper into nature for a hike through Markham’s green spaces. Milne Dam is open through October 19, 2026, giving you lots of time to enjoy its trails and river views before the season changes.

Grab a Patio While You Still Can
September still gives you plenty of chances to stretch out the patio season, so take advantage of those sunny afternoons and lingering evenings with good food, drinks, and a seat outside.
Santorini Estiatorio is the perfect escape to the Mediterranean, with delicious Greek flavours and an elevated patio. At La Fonte, grab a table right on Toogood Pond and enjoy Italian dishes while overlooking the water. Or settle in at NextDoor Restaurant, where the riverside patio, cocktails, and elevated menu make it an easy place to spend a leisurely afternoon or evening.

Spend a Day on the Farm
September is also a great time to slow things down with a farm visit. Stop by Carma Farms to see the animals and enjoy a family-friendly outing, head to Reesor’s Farm Market to shop for fresh local produce and seasonal favourites, or make a full day of it and explore even more stops around the city.

One More Scoop Before Summer Ends
If there was ever a good excuse for one more ice cream, “summer is almost over” is a pretty convincing one.
Stop by Love Gelato for rich, smooth Italian gelato tucked just off Main Street Markham, head to Roji Monster for its playful shaved ice desserts, or check out Savorology for another sweet way to cool down on a warm September afternoon.
Make dessert the destination or add it to the end of a walk, patio lunch, or afternoon exploring the city. Looking for even more sweet stops? Follow our Ice Cream Trail and discover more frozen treats around Markham.
Savour the Summer
September does not have to mean summer is over. Consider it a few bonus weeks to squeeze in the plans you have been meaning to make. Book the tee time, hit the trail, claim a patio table, wander the farms, grab one more scoop, and soak up every last bit of summer in Markham while you still can.
