Tanuki

Tanuki was created by two chefs born and raised in Markham. They travelled through Asia in search for unique and interesting flavours. After travelling around Asia and many years of working at some of the top restaurants, the chefs returned to Markham to create a modern take on Japanese comfort food at Tanuki.

Using local seasonal product and inspiration of Markham culture, they’ve created an amazing Japanese fusion menu!

FaMu – The Japanese Butcher

Owned and operated by a woman in a male-dominated industry, Famu is one of two retail shops in Canada registered with the Kobe Beef Association in Japan. To be a part of this association, businesses must apply and qualify to sell such high-quality beef – a process that requires a lot of work and fees to complete.

In addition to the Kobe beef, FaMu also offers the popular Wagyu beef in many different cuts.

Heisei Mart is the anchor of J-Town as the owner of it, along with a bread maker and jeweler, first set roots at this location – setting the foundation for what is now J-Town.

This is the go-to shop for essential pantry items as well as yummy Japanese snacks. Another plus, is their large variety of beautify Japanese dinnerware.
