Our Canadian pride comes out during the Olympics, and this year is no different! Join 215 athletes alongside millions of Canadians cheering on Team Canada in 15 different winter sports. Among these 215 athletes, there are some familiar faces of those who call Markham their hometown or who have played for Markham sports teams in years past.

Paul Poirier – Ice Dance

Paul Poirier

Poirier has already competed in Vancouver 2010 and PyeongChang 2018, making Beijing 2022 his third Olympic appearance! Born in 1991, this Unionville native started skating at age 5 with a stick and puck in hand and switched to figure skating by the age of 9. Since then, he has spent his years performing in Men’s Singles and in Ice Dance where he has won countless medals. Watch Paul Poirier, joined with his partner, Piper Gilles, in the Ice Dance competition this year in the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022!

Josh Ho-Sang – Men’s Hockey

Born in 1996 and from Thornhill, Josh Ho-Sang will be joining the Men’s Hockey team in the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 as a right-wing in his first Olympic appearance! Outside the Olympics, he is currently playing in the AHL for the Toronto Marlies and throughout his hockey career, which started in 2010, has seen him playing across Ontario, the United States of America, and Sweden! Be sure to cheer on the Men’s Hockey Team this Olympics, and our own Markham native, Josh Ho-Sang.

Jocelyne Larocque – Women’s Ice Hockey

Jocelyne Larocque

Returning for her third Olympics, Jocelyne Larocque is an alumna of the Markham Thunder Women’s Hockey team. With both a gold and silver medal from Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018, let’s cheer her and the team on in Beijing 2022! In the Sochi Olympics 2014, Larocque was the top defensive scorer scoring 1 goal and 1 assist and was named assistant captain at the PyeongChang Olympics 2018.

Laura Stacey – Women’s Ice Hockey

Laura Stacey may not be from Markham, but Markham was home to her at one point when she was a player on the Women’s Markham Thunder hockey team. Beijing 2022 will be her second Olympic appearance as she was a part of the PyeongChang 2018 Women’s Hockey Team where they won the silver medal.

Jamie Lee Rattray – Women’s Ice Hockey

Jamie Lee Rattray Team Canada

Making her Olympic debut, Jamie Lee Rattray is joining Canada’s Women’s Ice Hockey Team at the Beijing Olympics 2022. As a former Markham Thunder player, Rattray was voted by her fellow players for the Jayna Hefford Trophy as CWHL MVP. Help cheer her on in her first Olympics!
